Manage groups

Organize users into groups to streamline permission management, user selection, and notification distribution across your Comind system.

Group functionality

Groups provide the following organizational capabilities:

  • Permission delegation - assign permissions to groups rather than individual users
  • User filtering - limit user visibility during selection processes
  • Notification management - send notifications to specific groups
  • Workflow automation - trigger actions based on group membership

Workspace group activation

Every workspace can activate the Groups app to enable group management:

  • Workspace-specific groups - create groups unique to individual workspaces
  • Administrative control - workspace administrators oversee group memberships
  • Flexible organization - adapt group structure to workspace needs

Group hierarchy and scope

METAMETA workspace groups

Groups created in the METAMETA workspace have system-wide availability:

  • Global access - accessible across all workspaces in the system
  • Company-wide roles - represent organizational roles like Marketing team or Supervisors
  • Cross-workspace consistency - maintain consistent group structure

Workspace-specific groups

Individual workspaces can create their own groups:

  • Local organization - groups specific to workspace needs and structure
  • Precedence rules - workspace-specific groups take priority over global groups
  • Flexible management - adapt group structure to local requirements

Group management strategies

Global group planning

  • Organizational structure - align groups with company departments and roles
  • Permission templates - create standard permission sets for common roles
  • Naming conventions - establish consistent group naming patterns

Workspace group organization

  • Project teams - create groups for specific projects or initiatives
  • Functional roles - organize users by function or responsibility
  • Temporary groups - establish groups for time-limited projects or tasks

Best practices

Group design

  • Clear purpose - define the specific purpose and scope of each group
  • Appropriate size - balance group size with management complexity
  • Regular review - periodically assess group membership and effectiveness

Permission management

  • Group-based permissions - assign permissions to groups rather than individuals
  • Least privilege - grant only necessary permissions to each group
  • Documentation - maintain clear records of group purposes and permissions

Notification strategy

  • Targeted communication - use groups for focused notification delivery
  • Escalation paths - establish group hierarchies for issue escalation
  • Feedback loops - ensure groups receive appropriate updates and responses

Groups provide the organizational foundation for efficient user management and workflow automation within your Comind system.
